On November 1, 1901,
at Richmond College (now the University of Richmond) in
Richmond, Virginia the name of Sigma Phi Epsilon was
born in the philosophy of the love of god and the
principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.
With this, founder Carter Ashton Jenkens, sought out a
different kind of fraternity, with the idea of peace
through Brotherhood. It is through this idea that Sigma
Phi Epsilon and the Balanced Man has evolved into 100
years of Excellence and Brotherhood.
The Balanced Man Project was implemented in 1992, with
the focus of the development of a Sound Mind in a Sound
Body through mentoring, campus and community
involvement, all surrounded in a social environment and
guided by the Cardinal Principles of Virtue, Diligence,
and Brotherly Love that leads to the development of
better leaders, better chapters, and a better man..The
Balanced Man.
Sigma Phi Epsilon is the nations largest fraternity. In
the past 15 years more men have joined Sigma Phi Epsilon
than any other fraternity with over 240,000 members who
have taken a vow to uphold these values. Sigma Phi
Epsilon chapters are found on 270 college campuses
across the United States and is the only fraternity to
have at least 1 chapter in all fifty states across our
great country. A few proud SigEp alumni are; actor John
Goodman, NFL Quarterback Rich Gannon, MLB Pitcher Orel
Hershiser, author Theodore S. "Dr. Seuss" Geisel,
founder of Wendy's International Dave Thomas, and the
members of the band FUEL.
Founded at Arkansas Tech Univeristy on April 2, 1977,
the Arkansas Epsilon chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon
celebrates 25 years of being apart of the Tech community
and the National Fraternity. The Balanced Man ideal is
lived out at Arkansas Epsilons men through community
service in the city of Russellville and the Arkansas
Tech University campus. Their leadership and involvement
can be found on all corners of campus with members in;
SGA, IFC, RHA, Intramurals, Young Democrats, Catholic
Student Center, Wesley Foundation, Tech Cheerleaders,
Tech football, and many more. Socially Arkansas Epsilon
is known for its many activities including sorority
mixers, the annual Homecoming Bash, FLOAT TRIP, both
Spring and Fall Formals, and many other festivities,
these are just a few.
Arkansas Epsilon prides it self on being a leader in the
Tech community and in the National fraternity. With that
said Arkansas Epsilon has received recognition from
Arkansas Tech University and has consistently received
awards on the National level at the annual Carlson
Leadership Academy for their achievements. They have
also received the prestigious Buchanan Cup on three
occasions at Grand Chapter Conclave, which is held every
2 years. This award is based on academics, manpower,
finances, intramural, campus and community involvement.
The award is only given to the top ten percent of
chapters nationwide and Arkansas Epsilon has its goals
set high and is well on its way to its receiving its
fourth Buchanan Cup in 2003.
The College experience is unlike any other and is
enhanced through the experience of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Arkansas Epsilon exemplifies this with its tradition of
excellence and their intensely strong bond of
brotherhood that cannot be found elsewhere. It is for
this reason that Arkansas Epsilon is Simply the Best!
